#SundayFunday in the Sunshine and Wildflowers

It was truly a sunny #SundayFunday yesterday! Elizabeth, her husband Evans, their pup Blossom, and I ventured out for a hike in the wildflowers. Our options: Rowena Crest (a 1.5 mile jaunt along the Oregon side of the Gorge) and Dog Mountain (um, let’s just say the opposite). Well, we chose the latter.

Except for one brief respite, the entire trail to the top is uphill. There’s a 2800′ elevation gain. We ventured up the Dog Mountain Trail, choosing the “more difficult” of the two options, saving the “most difficult” for the descent.

We kept a steady pace, entertained at Evans’s tale of their first backpacking trip together in their first weeks of dating, including but not limited to lost hikers and wandering in the woods in the dark searching for water. Pit stops were spent shedding layers in the growing heat, chugging water, and snapping all the wildflower pictures…

A little over 2 hours later, we made it to the top! And what a reward it was…

Plus, there was sunbathing, Goldfish, and Wanderlust White to be had! It may not be a favorite of Wine Spectator, but there’s a time and a place for all wine.

The bottle is plastic! New favorite summit wine! Next time, it’ll be the Ramblin’ Red varietal…

We split off to descend on the Augspurger Trail, which proved to be a pretty good decision. We saw significantly less amounts of people, were mostly shaded, and had a softer trail beneath our sore and tired feet.

The evening was spent with my feet up, marveling at the already-apparent lines of my first sunburn of the season, and partaking in the beverage buffet: water, rosé, and mixed Core and sparkling water,my new favorite mocktail, courtesy of Jamie. So refreshing after a day of being hot and sweaty!

Words of wisdom at the trailhead.

And boy oh boy, did we succeed!

    1. Yes! It’s from Naked Winery in Oregon, which makes it only better in my mind. 😉 I found it in a little store in the Gorge, but definitely keep an eye out for it! On backpacking trips, I’ve also taken the bag out of a box of wine and hiked with that. And thank you!
